Another catch up post. This time some photos from a Napoleonic navel game that we played  a few weeks ago.

More WW1.

Our next game was another WW1 game. Again the rules were "1916". This time the Germans were in defence with the British and Kiwis doing the attacking.
This game started really well for the Germans. On the very first turn the only target for our field gun was a Mk IV tank. This tank was making it's debut and it started the battle in full view of our gun.
We fired and scored a hit and then rolled for damage. As you may have guessed, it was the end of the tank! This was however the only bright point of the game for the Germans. From here on we got slammed and finally rolled over.  Brit's 2, Germans 0.

WW1

It's been a long time since I posted some photos of our games. So long that I can't really remember what exactly happened. Anyway here are a few photos of one of our game since June.

We played a couple of WW1 games using a free set of rules called "1916". They can be found here

The first game saw the Germans attacking a British held line through a wood and a somewhat damaged town. The end result saw the Germans battering away to no avail.

Kings of War

A couple of months ago we played a game with some of Adrian's ancient armies using a set of rules called Kings of War. These rules are a free download and are available from manticgames . Although written for fantasy battles, there are a number of free supplements at An Hour of Wolves & Shattered Shields.   
for historical gaming, from Ancients through to ECW. We also used these for a Dark Age game using our Vikings and Saxons but I have no idea where the photos have gone! Sorry.

AWI Game

A number of years ago the Southern Strategists had their first visit from New Zealand wargaming personality, Roly Hermans (a.k.a the Fusilier General). To celebrate this momentous occasion we put on an 28mm American War of Independence game at the Redoubt. As a group, we had decided to build American and British armies using mainly Front Rank figures, although Rodger Wood purchased a unit of Eureka 'Marble-Headers' that added something different to the rebel forces (note the hint of British sympathies!). Inspiration for this project came from the Guilford Courthouse game that Roly, Paul Crouch and Steve Sands put on at 'Conquest' in Wellington in 2002 that I was privileged to photograph.

I found photos of the celebratory encounter at the Redoubt recently and thought they should be published as a record of the occasion. Roly has visited many times since when in Christchurch and is considered an honorary Southern Strategist.
