SYW in 15mm

Our recent game for the group was a SYW game using the Volley and Bayonet rules.

Frederick the Great's Prussians are trying to push through some Russians that are blocking their way, before the Austrian army can catch them.

 The Russians formed up in front of the advancing Prussians.

 The Prussians prepare to attack the Russians and defend against the Austrians to their right.

 and, the Austrians who are keen to mix it with the Prussians before they breakthrough the Russian lines.

 The Russians manage to hold off the Prussians first attacks,

 but their subsequent attacks found some success.

 The Russian division to the right of the town was badly mauled and was forced to withdraw behind their reserves.

 Pressure from the Austrians on the flank was preventing the Prussians from finishing off the Russians.

 The Prussians were trying to withdraw from the Austrians and advance through the Russians at the same time. Not an easy thing to do!

 Prussian cavalry forced the remaining Russians off the ridge.

 but that just exposed them to the Russian reserves.

 With the Austrians pressing on with their attacks, time was running out for the Prussians.

 The Russians to the left of the town were almost untouched through out the battle.

The Prussians through in all they could to get the breakthrough that they needed but it was all in vain. They had now suffered too much and had no choice but to slink away and lick their wounds.

Fire and Fury

Our last game was an ACW game in 15mm using the Regimental Fire and Fury rules.

A bit of a meeting engagement with the Union attempting to secure a couple of crossroads. Both sides had reserves turning up to help out.

 Initially the Union had superior numbers but more Rebels were on the way.

 The Confederates moved up into the wood and the Union charged into them.

 The more numerous Union easily pushed the Rebels back.

Confederate reserves arriving just in time.

 The big Union regiments were proving hard to push back.

Rebel troops moving through the woods to the sound of the guns.

 The Rebels have another crack at pushing the Union away.

 But the result is the same again.

 The Confederates are all pushed back and the crossroads are now in real danger of being over run by the Union.

 The Rebels try yet another attack but still the Union hold.

 Union reserves are sent toward the other crossroads.

 The reserves meet each other on the other side of the wood.  But there is no going back for the Union.......

...... and the Confederates have no choice but to retreat away to fight another day.

Italy 1859

Set during the Second Italian war of Independence.

Garibaldi's Red Shirts are on the attack .

Also present is a Neapolitan Army and an army from the Papal States.

A very even battle with both sides looking like they would take the honours. In the end I think the Red Shirts morale broke just before their enemies morale collapsed.

SYW battle of Wilhelmsthal.

A while ago we got together for a Seven Years War game.( About a month ago!)

The game is based on the battle of Wilhelmsthal 1762.

The French are occupying some low hills with the allies advancing against them.

 The bulk of the allies begin to appear in front of the French left.

 The French quickly send in some cavalry to cover their extreme left.

 On the French right more allies appear through the woods.

 The French centre is not threatened, for now.

 Just as the French left begins to come under control.........

 ...........more allied troops appear in the French left rear!

 The French desperately try to deal with the enemy to front before turning to face the troops in their rear.

 The French centre turns to aid the French left.

 Slowly the French are forced back towards the centre of their line.

 The allies start breaking through the French lines.

 Over on the French right the allies try another assault. Their first attempt was turned back.

 With  pressure on both their flanks the French were in trouble.

In the end a near run thing. I am not sure now, but I think the French conceded.
