Back to the Vikings

Our last game was a repeat of the practice game from my own blog ( Rebel Barracks), so I wont bother with repeating the story.

Slightly different looking table and a rearrangement of the troops along with a few more and we were away.

The raiders heading home.

This time though their escape route is blocked.

With a large group in front another warband appears on the right flank.

then even more enemy come out of the trees on the left flank.

With not many options the raiders go straight at the enemy in front of them.

By the end the raiders are almost surrounded and are unable to breakout. The tables have been turn from the previous game.

Lion Rampant

Last weeks game was a Medieval game using the Lion Rampant rules.

The game involved two forces controlled by three players per side. The main commander of each side was attempting to find favour with the King by capturing the three criminals that had escaped from the dungeons of the castle dressed as monks.

The fugitives were known to be hiding out amongst the buildings of the local village.

So, simply enter the the village, search the houses, capture the dudes that look like monks and return them to the King and collect the rewards from the tower. Simple!
And if you see any other troops doing the same, kill them and take the monks that they have captured!

3 monks to be found. Side with the most monks at the end wins.

1 monk found.

Our medieval troops have seen little action in the past. Now that we have enough for a game they might get used a bit more often!

Lion Rampant game

The groups last game for this year was a Lion Rampant game. Originally planned using our Medieval armies, until the organiser realised that we didn't have enough Medieval troops painted. With 6 players a fair number of troops are needed to keep our boys happy for a night! So out came the Dark Age armies instead.

This was the first game for most of us and as a result the scenario was relatively simple with not too many different troop types.

An encounter game with both sides entering from opposite table sides. Three objectives, the village, the bridge and the ford in the river.
The ford. Not quite lining up with the track through the trees.

Defending the bridge.

Action around the bridge.

Crossing the ford.

The village.

By this stage the troop numbers were getting thin.

Not too many left by the end of the game.

With so much happening I am not even going to try to explain what happened, but, long story short, there were a lot of melees and in the end all commands were getting very weak and we called it a draw.

An enjoyable game with most of the guys keen to have another go and even some buying up some medieval troops for the next encounter.
